The title Ginger Pop Stories comeds from an experience I had many years ago when my friend Bill introduced me to his homemade ginger pop. Every summer he made this delightful and refreshing pop which became a neighborhood favorite. The delicious wet taste was the exact experience I hoped to create in my paintings.
The ever growing group of paintings called Mary's Mystery Novels began when a friend commented that my paintings were like a mystery novel, each viewing offered more information then previous viewing.
After graduation with my BFA and just before starting the MFA, I had the luxury of spending three weeks in Italy as the guest of a good friend. After 33 museums, cathedrals and miscellaneous historical sites I was overwhelmed with halos. I saw them everywhere and on everything. For the following year I painted everything with a halo including fish and deer.
